One of the biggest names in US comedy over the past 20 years is coming to Dubai for a one-night-only special that’s bound to leave us all holding our sides.
With the comedy scene in Dubai set to welcome some of the UK’s biggest names over the next six months, including Al Murray and Michael McIntyre, it’s the US’s turn to grace the stage and show us what they’ve got.
That’s why we could scarcely be more excited about comedy genius Dave Chappelle coming back to Dubai on Tuesday November 20 after a sell-out crowd at his last gig in 2015. Happy Hump Day indeed.
Back then, we reviewed his gig at the Dubai Comedy Festival as “an introduction to his comic genius” and that we simply couldn’t wait for his return. Thankfully, our wish has come true, and Live Nation are bringing him back for a one-off gig at the Dubai World Trade Centre on November 20.
His comedy isn’t for the faint-hearted, and the American stand-up comic and actor is known for not pulling his punches with some pretty near-the-knuckle stuff – fans of his TV shows will know what we’re talking about.
The 45-year-old, an outspoken, politically-charged comedian, began his career back in the 1990s, moving to New York from Washington to pursue a career in comedy. He got his break performing on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam in 1992, and made his on-screen film debut in spoof comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights a year later.
His first stand-up special TV airing came in 2000, with Dave Chappelle: Killin’ Them Softly, before launching Chappelle’s show, a Comedy Central sketch show which ran from 2003 until 2006.
Chappelle even won a Grammy award for Best Comedy Album at this year’s ceremony, for The Age of Spin & Deep In The Heart of Texas, which was his first full-length comedy special in more than 12 years.
The same show also happened to be Netflix’s most-viewed stand up performance ever on its network.
Chappelle is comedy royalty, and tickets are on sale tomorrow (Thursday October 25) for the night, starting from Dhs295 and available at www.ticketmaster.ae.
