Drinking Water is a major issue while trekking or cycling or in a desert. However, in this technological world there are companies that have developed a ‘Self-filling Water Bottle’ which can turn humid air into Drinking Water.
The idea to create a device that converts thin air into water came to the mind of Austria’s industrial designer, Kristof Retezár who is based in Vienna, had invented a device which can extract humidity from air then condense it into H2O or drinkable water. This handy gadget named ‘Fontus’ can be easily attached to a bike to generate water during countryside long-distance rides. This can also be a powerful tool for trekkers who travel on long distance tracks without availability of drinkable water.

Being hydrophobic, the device immediately repels the condensed water, so you get a drop flow [into the bottle]. In simple language, you’re taking humid air in a vapor state then converting it into a liquid state.

Fontus device can produce 0.5 liters of water in an hour with temperatures between 86 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit (which is 30 to 40 degrees Celsius) and humidity between 80 to 90 percent.
The prototype also includes a filter on the top of the bottle to keep bugs and dust out of the water, but it does not include a system to filter out potentially harmful contaminants. You will get clean water, unless the air is really contaminated. The company is thinking to make a bottle that also has a carbon filter for areas or cities where you might think the air is contaminated. Originally, the idea was to create this water bottle to be used in nature and places where there’s no chance of having contaminated air and to solve global water issues in the areas of the world having very little groundwater.

The Fontus is currently available in two versions for preorder on Indiegogo; the stand-alone Fontus Airo is available for $200, plus the cost of shipping and other one is the Fontus Ryde which is available for $165, plus shipping, this can be attached to a bicycle. The company will start shipping the product ship worldwide by April 2017.
