Color Basics Trends for Designing your Home Classy

When you want to decorate your place, you call in for trained and specialized interior designer professionals. But this effort can be lessened with a little tips and knowledge. Find out how:-

  •     UNDERSTANDING THE PRIMARY COLOR

Know about the primary colors viz. Red, Blue and Yellow and understand the wheel of colors. Other colors are created by combining these three. Try blending these if looking for something wild.

  •     ADD CONTRAST

You must have heard about opposite attracts. In rooms, this goes well if you understand secondary colors. You get it after blending 2 primary colors. Now go for one primary and one secondary color while selecting paints for your room. For example Yellow and Purple.

  •     MONOCHROMATIC SHADES AND SCHEMES

Interested in a red room? Or a blue, pink or yellow one? This is monochromatic which simply involves bunch of shades. Even furniture, and other pieces like curtain, bed covers etc. are of the same color.  You can also try shades of a single color.

  •     CLASSY BLACK AND WHITE

Add color scale to the number of areas to cover. Keep adding little white color until entirely white on the ending box. This is called tinting. Now work oppositely and add black shade until completely black at the other end of the box. This is called shading. Your room looks popped up with black and white contrasting color.

  •     ACCENTUATING WITH B&W

Black and white is best when blended with any other color which gives sophisticated look than monochromatic scheme. Use two equal parts of the color or use only bits of it, this is up to you. For instance, in a yellow color room, black and white furniture will give a classy look.

  •     COOL AND CALM

If focusing for relaxed environment, light shades colors close or tertiary to white are good picks. For creating cool space, these tend to be most pastel (kind and soothing) as it doesn’t have shine. Tan and white are good accent colors when opting for furniture because of its property to blend with light colors and not contrasting.

  •     EXPERIMENTING WITH LIGHT

When going for a room light and air filled, looking for source of light is important. Choose white or cream color so that sunlight doesn’t gets blocked. Go for low watt bulbs; they do not glare light on the face.

  •     DARK

Dark is as important as light and is a major part of design. If you like cozy and rustic feel, use dark colors but these doesn’t have to be monochromatic. Real earthy colors give the look of log cabin and choose dark for the walls as well.

  •     BROWN

Brown can be vital for decorating and its tan also. Dark colors can give the feel of cozy and warm but they don’t help in making small room look bigger. Brown can be used to make a room look smaller.

  •     WHITE

White is a fantastic shade if anyone is looking for making small room look big. White is a standard go-to and helps you to pull it off.

  •     GLOSSY WITH MATTE FINISH

The sheen of the paint affects the aura of the room. If for example if you want a nice beach type feeling in your room, do not choose high gloss. Go for matt gloss like eggshell that will absorb the light and not reflect it. If you want wild and vibrant feel then go for gloss shine. High gloss will provide electric feel to the room.

  •     FOLLOW A PATTERN

Irrespective of whether you are going for wild or something subtle, lots of patterns and shapes make a room complete. For soft, soothing patterns like waves, polka dots will be great. Use accent color in pattern. For a yellow room, use purple colored pillows along with tea.
