An agreement for Phase 4 and 5 of the Dubai Water Canal Project has recently awarded by Roads and Transport Authority.
In this Dh703 million contract will work in both phases and set for completion by the end of September this year.
Highlighting the latest phases of the plan, Chairman of RTA Mattar Al Tayer said: “Phase 4 of the Dubai Water Canal project, which takes about Dh307 million, is part of infrastructural works needed to serve property development areas on both sides of the Canal, covering roads & utility lines.
The Canal reaches 3.2 km from the Business Bay Canal up to the Arabian Gulf through the Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl Road, and Jumeirah Road.

Phase 5 of the Dubai Water Canal project, which takes about Dh396 million would connect the Business Bay Canal with the Dubai Water Canal ending at the Arabian Gulf. all the works in this contract will include building quay walls of precast concrete slabs all along the reach of the Canal, and creating & diverting utility lines & key services to give way for finishing the development works of the Canal as well as the removal of impacted services, also cover the treatment of hyper-saline water of the Business Bay Lakes, eliminating sand barriers in the course of the Canal, and building 3 marine transport stations on both sides of the Canal.
According to the allowed time chart, Development works in the Dubai Water Canal are progressing, and 92 % work has been completed in the Bridge of the SZR.

RTA has lately opened the northern bridge of the SZR in the direction from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. Finish rate in the Abu Dhabi-bound southern bridge has touched 81 %, and the bridge is assumed to be opened in July this year.
The contract of Phase 1 of the project includes the construction of a bridge of eight lanes in each direction on the Sheikh Zayed Road passing over the Canal in a way providing free navigation round-the-clock.
It also comprises modifying lanes of affected roads to ensure mixed traffic movement between the 2 shores of the Canal. An 800 mtr long sector of the SZR will be affected by this project phase, which also comprises diverting the current utility lines affected by the Canal course, fitting smart light managed by a smart app, in addition to fountains on the bridge.
Works under Phase 2 of the project, include building bridges on Al Wasl and Jumeirah Roads are proceeding according to the allowed timetable with finish rate has so far clocked 86 %. This Phase encompasses the development of bridges on Al Wasl and Jumeirah Roads passing over the Water Canal with vertical clearance providing the passage of boats up to 8 mtr high.

It also covers the construction of a free multi-tier road to link the traffic movement between Al Wasl, Al Hadiqa and Al Aathar Roads to ensure a smooth traffic flow rather of the current light signals.
The contract includes the development of bridges linking with the suggested peninsula to the south of the Jumeirah Park, redirecting utility lines by conduits passing under the Canal, in addition to laying additional utility ducts under the Canal to cater to predicted future needs.
Phase 3 of the Dubai Water Canal Plan has exceeded 75 % Completion rate and works are well started to complete the structure of quay walls, defend the utility lines, redirect sewage lines on both sides of the Canal, make a sewage pumping plant, and build a coastal breakwater.

Works under Phase 3 also cover drilling the Water Canal, making quay walls, and building 3 pedestrian bridges connecting the 2 sides of the Canal at key positions to ease the movement of people, and boost them to use mass transport means, particularly marine transit modes.
Works also include building 10 marine transit stations to improve the role of marine transit modes in the mobility of people, especially after the finish of many of islands in the Arabian Gulf, like The World and Jumeirah 2.
The marine transit modes are anticipated to lift more than 6 million passengers yearly in that area. Phase 3 also includes landfilling works to create a man-made peninsula along the Jumeirah Park, which will double the beach line of the Park, expand the park area, and make a room for more leisure actions.
